On aurait pu regarder l'éclipse à Paris ....

The Paris school district has decided a ban on outdoors activities for kids (including recess) tomorrow during the eclipse. It's a shame we could have used those two hours:
  • to explain to the kids that they should never look directly at the Sun during an eclipse or before or after.to explain to the kids that there is no need to be dependent on newspapers that sell appropriate glasses for the event because you can watch the eclipse as a projection in a camera obscura mode. Use a sieve or a piece of paper with a (or more) hole in it and look down.
  • to explain to children that these cameras obscura were the first means to create an image in ancient times and that photography was born in France. The first picture in the world was made here.
  • to have fun in explaining that France open sourced the patent of photography in the interest of humanity to the rest of the world except for England where you had to get a special licence to use that process.
  • to explain that the Sun is a star.

But we didn't.
